On the occasion of the 15th National Information Day related to the right to information, I express my best wishes to all.

Article 27 of the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the right of every citizen to seek and receive information on any subject of his or her public affairs with the objective of strengthening the democratic system of governance.

How to ask for information

(1) A Nepali citizen wishing to obtain any information under the RTI Act shall submit an application to the concerned Information Officer stating the reasons for obtaining such information.

(2) If any application is received in accordance with sub-section of the RTI Act, the Information Officer shall immediately provide the information if the information by its nature can be provided immediately and the information has to be given within fifteen days from the date of application.

(3) If information cannot be provided in accordance with sub-section of the Right to Information Act, the Information Officer shall immediately inform the applicant with reasons.

(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of the RTI Act, if the requested information relates to the protection of the life of any person, the Information Officer shall provide the information within twenty-four hours of such request.

(5) The Information Officer shall, as far as possible, provide information in the format demanded by the applicant.

(6) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section of the RTI Act, if any possibility arises, the Information Officer shall provide such information if the source of information in the format requested by the applicant may be damaged or damaged. With the reason for mentioning it in the appropriate format.

(7) If any person submits an application to study or observe written documents, materials or activities in accordance with sub-section of the RTI Act, the Information Officer shall provide the applicant appropriate time to study and observe such written documents, materials or activities.

(8) While examining the application received under sub-section of the RTI Act, the information requested by the applicant is not related to such body and the Information Officer shall immediately inform the applicant.
